Back to School day will start at 2:00 with the museum open for visitors and music to start at 3:00. We decided not to have refreshments, due to the Delta Variant, but there was an idea of having cold water in a cooler.
Joan has contacted the township regarding parking and if we need police assistance for traffic. Diane D will advise. Joan will work on advertising. We need a PA system for the director, Adele will work on this. Docent volunteers, Bill F, Joan F, Anne G, Adele S, June T, Ron T. Docents should arrive about 1:30.
Old business
Mr. Ridgeway (insurance agent) is waiting for insurance information for outside events, such as the Cemetery walk and the Flag program. He will advise us if we can continue with these events.
New Business
Adele has been doing research for the Township for a new Veteran’s Park. Adele has comprised a list of over 300 veterans that have lived in Waretown.
We need a new Corresponding Secretary. Adele expressed that we hope someone will come forward for this position.
The review of the by-laws continues, we will address this at the next meeting.
Mr. Trinder suggested we establish a membership category for lifetime members who have passed away.
Adele explained that she has been watching for items from Waretown on eBay. She has purchased several postcards for our collection. She also found a wedding certificate of George Warren on eBay and the seller is firm on the asking price of $250.00. There was an overall opinion that this was too much for this item. Sandy Grey wondered if we could just print up a copy of the listing info for our records.
Mr. Trinder will complete registration for The Jamboree on October 9, 2021.
FLAG PROGRAM REPORT
Mr. Trinder reported that all the holders are ready for Labor Day and Sept 11th
GRANT REPORT
Joan F reported that there is no matching requirement for this year’s Ocean County grant. There is no one working on the grant at this time.
TRUSTEE REPORT
Plants look good and have been sprayed with an animal repellent.
The vinyl doors of the shed are starting to de-laminate.
Bill F is planning to power wash the building and will take a look at the shed doors.
ACQUISITIONS
No new acquisitions this month
FINAL COMMENTS
As we are planning our Back-to-School Program on Sept 19, 2021, there will be no meeting in September.
Motion to adjourn at 8:35, by Anne G, Seconded by June Tart.
Mini program was presented by Adele S.
Adele highlighted the collection of newspaper clippings squirreled away in a shoe box by Rebecca Eayre Camburn, who lived from 1861-1928. A copy of her treasure trove was donated to the Waretown Historical Society about twenty years ago by Gladys Eayre.
We time-travelled back to the age between the Victorian era and the roaring twenties, as Adele read selected articles from Rebecca’s collection. Rebecca kept dozens of local clippings on interesting events, and notices about relatives and friends. Her collection is a wonderful snapshot of life in a lost era, carefully preserved over decades by a Waretown resident.
Refreshments were served as we enjoyed the program.
