Before the meeting was called to order, Aidan asked if anyone had someone to add to our prayer list. Lydia Dodd was added.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING – Aidan asked if there were any questions, or comments or corrections to the minutes and Adele S stated that she had 22 comments to be made. These comments can be found on the website under the April minutes.
Near the end of Adele’s list, a motion was made by David S., and seconded by Sarah S. that another election should take place in September. And all members can vote. Motion was voted on. Aye =12 Nay – 9 , 2 abstained. The motion was made, however Ken B. stated that it cannot be executed if it goes against the bylaws.
Treasurer’s report –
One copy of the report was given to Aidan O., for his records and the other copy will go into the secretary’s book. Beginning balance was $2,320.32 with debits of $1,324.09 and deposits of $2,378.00 ($1080 flags) plus a transfer from the savings account for the scholarships and a refund from Amazon leaving a balance of $5, 457.15. Motion to accept John Pu., Ken B., all yes.
CORRESPONDING SECRETARY – Two thank you cards, one to Beth Carroll and one to Margo M., thanking them for their gifts at the event on April 13th, We received two forms to fill out for the fall gatherings. One from Albert Music Hall and one from the Pinelands Jamboree.
Adele also received a letter from David P. talking about his relationship to the Burden family and he also told us that he was planning on donating a piece from his family’s history. Adele read the letter and this letter will be added to our files.
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE- Adele S., indicated that the checks had been written and given to the appropriate people at the High School. She told members about one being for a male and one for a female, but no names were given out since it is meant to be a surprise. Adele stated that she and Kelly Z. and Aidan O would be there on May 28th to hand out the scholarships. This year each student will receive $1000.00 from the Historical Society.
PROGRAM COMMITTEE – 4 of July. Dan C is ringing the bell. Beth C. is planning on donating snacks and cookies, pastries and water.
FLAG PROGRAM – John/Aidan John P., was in Maine and Aidan gave the report that 30 new flags had been purchased and new poles were coming and that there were at least 18 new businesses that might be added to our list of sponsors. This is our major fund raiser for the year. Ron has been checking all the holes and the new ones that need to be installed. We could use some volunteers for the flag program.
TRUSTEE REPORT - Water leak found and the town came and fixed it. Plants are being watered by John Pu. Volunteers are needed to work in the gardens. The problem with the bell not working has been fixed. The children yank on the rope and it slides off the track. This happens all the time. Dan C. is going to look at it.
OLD BUSINESS – FIREWORKS ON May 23rd unless it rains. Open house on June 7th and we can use volunteers for that. June, Kelly, Ken and Glenys, Sandy G.,
NEW BUSINESS – TOWNSHIP IS HOSTING MUSIC IN THE PARK EVERY TUESDAY DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. THE museum will be open if we can get enough volunteers to come. Janit said she could help.
TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT – Ken B., gave a short update on coming activities in the town. The art entries had to be handed in by last Friday and there were 54 entries. 14 essays were entered into the town’s contest. Adele asked Ken that if he could make a decision before the end of school than she could inform the winners. He stated that the parade has been cancelled due to a conversation with Homeland Security and the Ocean County Prosecutors office. In the interest of safety, they are cancelling the parade. There will be a type of Founders Day event next April to close out the year. The passports have been distributed and if anyone did not receive one, they are available at the town building and at the Senior Center. A few copies will be available at the museum as well.
GRANT REPORT No news.
ACQUISITION – We received a Spike Maul was donated to us. It was used on the Waretown to Tuckerton Railroads We also received the possibility of a Sam Hunt Sneak Box, but it would require MAJOR work to fix it. Linda B., contacted Bobby who contacted Grove Conrad who agreed it was a Sam Hunt sneak box. Adele thinks it would be a good find. What is a sneak box? A sneak box is a boat that they made with a hollow inside to sit. Duck decoys are placed in the water and the ducks flying above see the decoys and think it’s a safe place to land and then the person inside the sneak box can shoot them and have dinner. Ron stated that museum had made a replica of a sneak box and entered it into the Tuckerton Duck Decoy contest and it won second place.
David P., sent a picture of a picture of a flag that once flew on Capt Burden’s ship. David wants to get a plaque made with all the information on it and send it to us. His grandfather sailed a two-masted schooner out of Waretown in the 1800’s.
Question – do most people contact the historical society if they have something to donate? Yes, some people do. Ron interjected a question, how do we pick something as a donation? The curator committee picks. Genuine antique that has some connection to Waretown. We can’t turn into an antique store. Connection to Waretown.
